Sarah's Shade at SAS

In April of 2009 Sarah Rudolph, the daughter of Dr. Carol Fujiyoshi and Dr. Councill Rudolph, died in a tragic automobile accident, just shy of her 17th birthday. Sarah was a Sewanee Tiger Tennis camper, played on the tennis team at St. Andrews-Sewanee, and then on the high school team at Tullahoma High School. Sewanee Tiger Tennis and the Sewanee Tennis Association have joined forces to honor Sarah’s life with the construction of a shaded arbor from which to view the St. Andrew’s-Sewanee tennis courts. “Sarah’s Shade” will provide a welcoming and comfortable place to sit, swing, view, and relax at the tennis courts on the SAS campus. “SAS has long been a part of our tennis tradition here on the Mountain,” said Shackelford. “Its tennis courts have been a second home to all of the camps, clinics, tournaments, and team competition in this community.” The project has special significance at this time as Dr. Carol Fujiyoshi has recently sold her medical practice and is moving to Hawaii to rejoin her extended family. “The project is both an opportunity to honor Sarah and to say goodbye to our dear friend Carol,” said Sewanee Tennis Association member Janice Thomas.
